Retail Environmental Designer

Our client is a global branding firm with offices in multiple countries and works with some of the world’s largest brands. They are looking to add a freelance Retail Environmental Designer to their team on a freelance basis. This position has the potential to turn into a full time role.

The Designer will develop initial concepts and refine design iterations for brand projects in addition to the prerequisite department duties. Designers are expected to be an indispensable partner to the department This means completing all manner of studio roles from designing to creating presentation boards to buying sandwiches and pizza for the team. No task is too big or too small in an effort to show true team skills and a positive can do attitude.

It is expected that this position is a self-starting position in that it is possible to profile the position against the volume of work produced, against the thinking produced in comparison to a positive can do attitude and creative thinking.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Mastery of Photoshop, Illustrator, SketchUp, CAD, REVIT and other current design software in a Mac OS X environment.
  • The basic need to be able to draw or layout design thinking using the traditional design tools, non-computer related.
  • Problem solver who takes accountability and ownership of assigned projects while understanding timelines and budgets.
  • Conceptualizes, plans, designs, and produces a wide range of specialized graphic and/or illustrative material against the set strategic brief.

Other Responsibilities:

  • It should be understood that on occasion it is expected that staff arrive early and leave late to ensure that the expectations of the client and the standards of the company are met.
  • The Designer is expected to undertake additional studio task such as monitoring the printers or the upkeep of the cutting room. These additional studio tasks are incredibly important to ensure the smooth running of the company.
  • Can work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Thinks strategically as well as aesthetically
  • Assumes a hands-on design function to help complete projects in a timely, aesthetically compelling manner
  • Displays a positive, team-building work attitude under pressure
  • Communicates verbally as well as visually, is able to present his/her thinking during an internal presentation/critique.

Education/Experience:

  • BFA (or equivalent experience) in design
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in brand/interior/retail design
