Wrath of Cannes 5 kicks it up a notch with Tony Hawk
It’s that time of year again, when the global advertising industry begins either stocking up on sunscreen and Tylenol or grumbling about how overrated awards are. Yep, The Cannes Lions are just around the corner, and you’re either going or you’re pretending it doesn’t matter.
If you happen to fall in the latter category, you’ll be pleased to know that The Wrath of Cannes is returning for a fifth straight year. Founded by New York agency Woods Witt Dealy & Sons, The Wrath of Cannes is the award show for people who don’t normally get to go to the French Riviera.
In past years The Wrath of Cannes has mainly been an excuse for juniors and ad school students to head out to Coney Island, show off their work over some frosty beverages, and they’re lucky, that work could earn them the prestige of having their name added to the Grand Coney trophy. This time, however, there is an actual competition where creatives come up with an idea for some guy named Tony Hawk.
Yes, the legendary skateboarder himself will be at the Wrath of Cannes to help select the winner, who will receive some sweet-ass prizes, including folding cash, some swag, and — if your idea is good enough — the chance to actually work with Woods Witt Dealy & Sons, Tony Hawk and his company Birdhouse to make your idea a reality.
And, of course, your name on the Grand Coney.
Deadline for entries is June 17th, and the award show will take place at Cha-Cha’s on Coney Island on the 23rd from 7–11 PM. Check out the website for all the details.
