Award Show Bedlam! Tomorrow Awards, Bessies, ANDYs
Whew! We at ihaveanidea have been insanely busy behind the scenes, gearing up for Portfolio Night 9, the return of the Schmooze, the launch of Creative Director:Year Zero, our first ever Training Day and a whole host of other things, so it’s no wonder that a few award show notes have slipped in under the radar. Not to worry, dear friends, time to break out the tomatoes and “ketchup.”
Over in Tomorrow Awards land, we are in the process of interviewing all of the winners and shortlisters of the Winter 2011 session, in order to continue the tradition of “celebrating and educating” the industry. While we get prepared for those stories to be told, perhaps you’d like to know exactly why our esteemed Monster Judges selected the five winners. As part of our upcoming Tomorrow Awards documentary, we’ve got our judges on film, chatting about 4th Amendment Wear, 180LA’s “Mitsubishi Live Drive”, R/GA’s “Pay with a Tweet” and Google Creative Lab’s “The Wilderness Downtown” and “YouTube Life in a Day”.
You can check out all of the Monster Judges’ remarks right here.

Our good friends over at the 2011 International ANDY Awards wrapped up in spectacular fashion recently, with top GRANDY honors going to those crazy folks at Wieden + Kennedy Portland for their “Response” campaign for Old Spice. If you somehow forgot what that was all about… shame on you! It’s when the Old Spice guy went all social media on everyone and recorded 186 YouTube messages “responding” to real-time Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube messages.
In true press release fashion, Ty Montague, Co-Chairman of the ANDYs, and Co-Founder, Co:Collective had this to say: “I think I can speak for my fellow Co-Chair Michael Lebowitz when I say that the superb level of work produced by our industry continues to inspire. The jury was a stellar group and it was an honor to work with them. I couldn’t be prouder of the work they have selected to honor.”

And finally, the 2011 Bessies Awards, which celebrate the best in Canadian TV spots, is just around the corner on May 19th. Of all of the award shows I’ve been to over the years, the Bessies have always been one of my personal faves; it’s short and sweet, and without fail the day has always had beautiful weather, which has lead to some pretty awesome post-show beverages on a patio or terrace.
But before we can get to the celebrations, we first gotta get to the show. This year’s promo campaign is done by the folks at CP+B Canada (formerly known as ZIG) and it shows that while social media is great and all, you still need that special, crucial element to your campaign.
