Logorama shooting for an Oscar this weekend
This weekend marks the 82nd edition of the Academy Awards, where Hollywood apparently celebrates the very best in motion picture creativity and craft. And whether or not the avatar of a serious man with a District 9 education is precious enough to blindside and hurt the locker of some inglourious basterds is still up, up in the air (take that, Billy Crystal opening number!) ad people are keeping their eyes on the Best Animated Short category, where the film Logorama is competing. If you haven’t seen it yet, Logorama is a fascinating 17-minute trip into a Los Angeles completely built from — and populated by — thousands of familiar logos. Think Madison Avenues meets Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, but with more death and destruction.
The film was created by Paris-based h5, a collective of directors renowned for videos for the likes of Massive Attack, Goldfrapp and Super Furry Animals, as well as spots for Toyota, Citroen and Volkswagen. Let’s see if an Oscar will carry more oomph than a Cannes Lion.
