The Hyper Island Recruitment Tour

We at ihaveanidea always get excited when we hear about various things that ad schools are up to. The latest news comes from our friends at Hyper Island, the Swedish school with the cool name that’s versed in all things digital.

Hyper Island students come from all over the world, but right now Hyper Island is going all over the world to recruit students for Fall 2010. The 2010 Recruitment Tour is in full swing, and is coming to London, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Oslo, New York, Stockholm and Berlin.

You know, I think we’re due for another David&Goliath story in the Inbox (hey, can we help it if they’re ihaveanidea fans and we’re D&G fans?)

Actually this is pretty cool news for our loyal fans in ihaveanidea’s original stomping grounds of Toronto, Canada. After opening up shops in London and Frankfurt in 2009 David&Goliath will be adding an office in the T-Dot very soon. They’ll be opening their doors with a built-in client — Kia Canada — and they’ve already found a kickass Executive Creative Director to lead the shop: Israel Diaz.

Finally! Somebody has achieved the perfect balance of coolness and straight up nerdiness!

adidas Originals has announced a brand new line of shoes and apparel, based on of all things the Star Wars universe. Sid Lee, that supercool Montreal based agency not too far from the ihaveanidea Towers, has created a 60 second spot featuring the likes of David Beckham, Daft Punk and Snoop Dogg.

The Super Bowl is only a few weeks away, and that event has always been about one thing to us in the ad industry: the big-budget, high exposure TV spots. In recent years it’s also been about something that causes some creatives to groan: consumer generated content. Yes, a number of the big brands have given their ad agencies the night off in favor of running contests where the unwashed masses, the hoi polloi, John Q. Public competes to create the best ad on their own.

Meet Danilov Eugeniy, a Russian based copywriter who has the deal of the century for you!

Danilov, who recently won first prize in the Eurobest Young Creatives competition, is job hunting with a bit of a twist. You see, young, passionate creatives seem to be a dime a dozen these days. Passionate creatives with lots of talent are rarer, but it’s still a buyers’ market. But young, passionate creatives with talent who want to sell you a genuine Cannes Lions Grand Prix trophy to display like you actually earned it? Now that’s what you call a very sharp needle in a very big haystack.

I think the Inbox needed one of those “We Are Experiencing Technical Difficulties. Please Stand By” sign thingies for the past few days while my computer recovered from the digital sniffles. Then again, that wouldn’t have stopped the cool stories from coming in. Ah well, time to clear out our actual inbox and put it all up here!

Christmas comes late at ihaveanidea

Happy New Year! Yes,we’ve said goodbye to 2009 in a nice little year-end recap, and the 2010 engines are starting to run again here at the ihaveanidea towers in Montreal. Slowly but surely we’re all returning from our Christmas/New Year’s destinations. I just got back from family and friends in Toronto, Nat is on is way back from Thunder Bay, Steph and Ignacio returned from sunny climes (Mexico and Panama respectively) and Rafik, who doesn’t believe in silly things like Christmas, came from twelve subway stops away.
