TBWA\Chiat\Day LA replays lives for Gatorade glory
Today is Thanksgiving in the United States, a holiday where people gather with family and friends to look back and appreciate the blessings they’ve received in life. A time for joyous celebration and thoughtful instrospection… ah, who are we kidding? It’s a time for gorging yourself on turkey and watching football on TV all day long.
TBWAChiatDay Los Angeles are taking advantage of that love of American football with their latest Gatorade project. They’ve created what they hope will be an entire series of documentaries called ‘Replay’. The first doc airs this Sunday, and is based on the century-old rivalry between the football teams of two New Jersey town’s high schools. After a highly anticipated Thanksgiving match up fifteen years ago ended in a tie, Gatorade has brought everyone involved in that game, from the players to the coaches to the cheerleaders, to play against each other and settle the score. They’re older, fatter and I don’t think any of them turned pro, but Gatorade is giving them a chance to live out a dream.
Somewhere in Chicago, Al Bundy is sitting on his couch, lamenting that the ’66 Polk High Panthers weren’t chosen for this project.
