Proving the Fun Theory with VW and DDB Stockholm
By now you’ve seen the YouTube videos floating around by DDB Stockholm for a Volkswagen initiative called ‘The Fun Theory.” The basic concept involves getting people to do good things by making them fun. DDB and VW have created a few examples; making throwing litter in its proper place instead of on the ground fun by adding sound effects to a garbage bin, and turning a staircase into a giant Tom-Hanks-in-Big-like piano to encourage people to choose the stairs over the escalator.
But you don’t have to happen to be in that particular park with that particular trash bin to get involved in The Fun Theory. The whole thing is actually a contest to get people to prove the ‘theory’ by coming up with similar ideas to make positive but mundane things fun. All ideas will be judged, and the best ones will be implemented, with the grand prize getting a nice €2500… and I can think of quite a few ways to have fun with that kinda money.
