Microsoft teaches you how to party. Seriously.
Most of us at ihaveanidea are Mac users, so Microsoft news sometimes slips past us without our notice. Such is the case with a new promotion the famous software company has created for the launch of Windows 7. They’re encouraging Microsoft fans around the world to apply to host their very own launch parties in their houses. If you’re one of the lucky ones, you’ll get all sorts of swag for your party, plus a copy of Signature Edition Windows 7 Ultimate. All you have to do is trick invite at least ten of your friends over. Sounds fabulous, but don’t take our word for it; watch the Host Party Planners in action.
This piece has all the earmarks of the award winning Songsmith video Microsoft did several months ago. We’re actually kinda surprised that the Songsmith technology wasn’t used to add some life to the above video. Now that’s a party I’d ditch my Mac to attend.
Seriously.
ADDENDUM:
It has come to our attention that some people think that we at ihaveanidea are seriously loving this Microsoft campaign, that it graces The Inbox because it’s a wonderful concept with a flawless execution. Rest assured, we posted it because, well, everybody loves a good train wreck on a Friday afternoon.
So we propose to you, why do they do things like this? Why do they hire one of the greatest agencies in the world to do their branding, then damage it by releasing this (and trust us, “this” is only the tip of the iceberg; each character in this video has their own videos detailing the cool things they did at their parties)
Does the concept suit the brand? Could a different approach work? How can the idea of throwing an official product launch in your own home work to generate great press and not ridicule?
Microsoft might not want your answers, but we do!
Again, seriously.
