Award Show Bedlam! Red Apple, Eurobest, ANDYS news
Award show season is kicking off again (does it ever really end?) with Spikes Asia underway today, but here’s some info about a show that doesn’t get much press. Next week the Moscow International Festival of Advertising Red Apple Awards throw down in Russia. Truthfully it might’ve escaped my radar entirely if I hadn’t heard that the jury was being chaired by Sean Cummins, big shot of SapientNitro, the Aussie agency who won three Grand Prix at Cannes for that “Best Job In The World” campaign.
Russia is not exactly a country renowned in the ad industry for being a creative powerhouse, but there are a number of Russian ihaveanidea members who have told us to keep an eye on this emerging market. The Red Apple Awards is as good as time as any to start. Besides, the trophies are pretty cool…

The 2010 ANDY Awards are coming up soon. You know, that award show with the small but ultra uber mega superstar jury that judges work in every category? Well it seems like they’re taking a bigger step to recognize the prominence of digital work, as 2010 Jury Chairman, Ty Montague, the well coiffed Chief Creative Officer of JWT North America has added the position of Co-Chairman to the Awards for the very first time. That Co-chair? Michael Lebowitz, Founder and CEO of Big Spaceship.
“In recent years, many creative awards shows have spun off digital shows to support the enormous role that interactive plays in the marketing landscape,” says Ty in his best press release reading voice. “The ANDYs haven’t done this, believing that integrated campaigns need to be evaluated in a single show. However, we recognize the rapidly evolving nature of our industry and the importance of digital work to have its deservedly prominent place in our show. Michael and I will be working closely together to accomplish this for the ANDYs.”
