News from July 2009
From song to viral to song to ad to viral to…
First there was the Buckwheat Boyz, one of those Miami DJ crews who make club jams with inane yet infectious lyrics. Their hit song “Peanut Butter Jelly Time” became a huge YouTube hit when somebody added the infamous dancing banana.
Ever the boundary-expanding artistes, the Buckwheat Boyz followed this hit up with “Ice Cream and Cake”, which really didn’t get the online traction that made PBJT a smash… until New York based Cliff Freeman & Partners got their hands on it for Baskin-Robbins.
Huxley Quayle lands global digital work for Appleton Estate
Toronto ad agency Huxley Quayle von Bismark — whose founder is longtime ihaveanidea supporter (and old-time interviewee) Andy Shortt — has good reason to ignore the advice in the last Inbox post and get a little tipsy in celebration of scoring the a chunk of the global digital account for Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum.
LDV United: get wasted, get the girl, get a raise… get real.
Ever have that feeling that a night just isn’t going to end well? It usually comes after that eighth shot of Jose Cuervo, that quiet zone that separates the sensation of having the time of your life and promising higher powers that you’ll never drink again if they could only let you survive that evening.
‘Mad Men Yourself’ for Season Three
Season Three of the hit ad industry-based TV show Mad Men starts in just a few weeks! Will there be a new addition to the Draper household, and is Don the father? TAXI chases cheese for Dairy Farmers of Canada
You know those sports skills we talked about in the last Inbox post? Well it looks like the residents of British Columbia can put those skills to work a few weeks from now by chasing cheese down a mountain.
This August marks the 2nd Annual Canadian Cheese Rolling Festival, a raucous event being held in Whistler, the world famous ski resort town north of Vancouver. The event was created by TAXI Vancouver for Dairy Farmers of Canada, and the centrepiece of the festival is a mad dash down the side of Whistler Mountain while chasing an 11-pound wheel of cheese.
DDB Canada: Sports skills are life skills
When I was a kid, I participated in a few sports. There was the usual swimming and softball that so many youngsters get involved in, but I was also fortunate enough to test my mettle at fencing. It wasn’t nearly as exciting as I thought it would be, but as an adult, I know I should now be able to handle myself better than the average person in the event of an impromptu Zorro attack.

That was the scenario cooked up by Droga5 Sydney to promote V Australia’s three-day travel packages to Los Angeles, and the three brave souls finished their ordeal just before this past weekend.

McCann Erickson gives MasterCard some “Priceless Picks”
Earlier this week we showed you a new Google feature called “Favorite Places” which lets users find restaurants, shops, galleries and landmarks as recommended by famous celebrities.
Now the folks over at McCann Erickson in New York have developed an iPhone app for MasterCard called “Priceless Picks.” It’s similar to Google’s “Favorite Places”, except this one is generated by everyday people, not by folks like Tony Hawk and Moby.
