Times like these see luxury products being the first ones cut off the proverbial shopping list. It is afterall a bit harder to justify splashing $500 on that pair of lovely Jimmy Choo shoes when the risk of getting laid off is an increasing reality for most people.

Savvy consumers are left with one of two choices; stop buying said luxury items, or turn to the dark side and get a similar looking product for a fraction of the price by purchasing a fake. And with tighter budgets a depressing reality, luxury brands are throwing an even bigger fit than usual trying to fight a problem they might’ve been ignoring for far too long.

In an interview with AdAge, Liz Miller, VP Operations of the CMO Council has a message for all consumers about the dangers of the counterfeiting monster.
