Brand Burma
You’re probably familiar with the dreadful situation in Burma right now. Calling it a mess would be quite the understatement. Foreign companies still operating there are seen by some as indirectly supporting what’s essentially turning out to be a quiet genocide by the military regime.
In response to calls from Burma’s democracy movement – the party led by Nobel Peace Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi – the Burma Campaign UK and other groups around the world have been pressuring companies to sever business ties with Burma. Levi’s Strauss & Co recently withdrew all their operations from there.
Our good friends over at Agency Asia have been leading the way in publicizing the issue, and a pretty heated debate involving Neil French, Tony Fernandes (Air Asia’s CEO) and Philip Rowel, ECD of McCann Bangkok has ensued.
No matter where you stand on the issues, the debate is extremely interesting. You can read more about it here and here.
