Clio Future Gold | Young Creatives Program Finalists

The 12 finalists demonstrated the best writing and art direction skills. These were judged not only on raw talent, but also on their understanding of core brand problems and their ability to solve them.

Judges comments:

Reviewing the work of some of the best young talent in the world was to see both disturbingly conventional thinking and some of the most refreshing solutions anywhere. I’m on several global juries this awards season; judging these portfolios I realized that much of the work getting big jury love is coming from those with the benefit of the least experience. I was reminded again of the value of hiring people right out of school, before they’re jaded, before they know too much. That combination of talent, energy and fresh eyes is powerful stuff. Anyone in a position to hire has a brief, golden opportunity to look at these Clio contenders and snap them up before their impending highly paid superstardom.

I was impressed with the books this year. It seems many are finding the balance of being media neutral and just showing they can concept and execute big ideas wherever they may live. I was happy to see an equal mix of male and female candidates. All of the work was better than expected and in most regions it was very difficult to select the best. I am looking forward to meeting the selected participants and seeing what they come up with.

The work that stood out felt (to me) a little more personal, sometimes interesting, occasionally surprising. while there was nothing truly outstanding, much of the work was of a good standard. Some of these kids have a promising future. It’s getting harder for all of us to do great work since advertising is gradually eating itself. But as long as we keep doing what we feel is right - rather than what we think others want to see - we’ll be in a good place.
- Joe De Souza, Creative Head on BBC
Fallon, London

I found the work very varied and I have to admit, the level was very high in general. It was very hard to choose, there was a lot of work and it was very good. I felt inclined to choose great ideas over anything else and I also kept an eye out for craft. I found many times that the combination of both was the hardest to achieve. I was really surprised at how developed all the regions were, it was more even than I thought. It was a great honour for me to see all this work. I wish the best of luck to all the participants of the Clio Future Gold Young Creatives Challenge, which from what I saw they won’t need much since they all have great portfolios.
