The rooms fill up with more and more people as the festival reaches its peak. Tonight, the Clios called for a "Creative Black Tie" event. Unfortunately since we're all mainly artsy fartsy creatives the MC came up and announced that he officially was the only idiot who got a Tux.
Awards were many in this category. The work was very deserving and the jury had admitted that it had been a hard process. Included in this panel was our very own Chris Staples from Rethink.
Only one Canadian agency won in these categories, and it was Holmes & Lee for their great dual billboard with the quotes on opposite sides of the street for the Weather Network. For this they won Gold in the Media Promotion Billboard category.
The big winner of the night with the Grand Clio was of course TBWA Japan with their jaw dropping human hanging soccer billboard. The crowd looooved this work and the CD from TBWA was probably the most excited award winning person I've ever seen.
On a sidenote, I've been having conversations with people who don't work in the ad industry about topics like media buying and how they are integrated into the agency. The conclusion is that sadly, there is very poor integration between creative and media dept. The only agency whom I know has began to change that is Crispin Porter Bogusky who revamped their media department to become their creative media dept or something, and they are involved in the project/creative process since the beginning.
The lesson to learn. Crazy ideas like these ones are the ones that usually get killed in the boardroom because of a lazy media person who believes that if it can't be done, a client who gets scared because it hasn't been done before, or a creative person who simply doesn't push hard enough. |
