THINK! about it

Peek-a-Boo, I see you

I recently read an article about subliminal advertising.  Quite interesting to see that, even today, this is still a taboo subject.  There have been several studies over the years to prove if this technique is, in fact, effective or not.  It seems no one found the ultimate proof yet.  Yes, several studies shown that it ‘’might’’ have some effect on the human brain, but nothing conclusive.  Some will say it really warps your brain while other will state that there is not solid proof up to this day.

To be honest with you, I just think were missing the whole point of this.  Whether it works or not, you just don’t mess with human brain.  This is wrong.  I can understand you want your campaign to be a success, but come on…  Play fair.  There are so many good ads and innovative concepts out there.  Plus, new technologies see the light every day, offering us more and more possibilities.  How can you not take advantage of this, and instead choose to cheat?

Last year, on Iron Chef America (a popular American TV show on the Food Network), there was this whole controversy after one episode as the McDonald logo appeared during the show for one thirty-eighth of a second.  Obviously, you only could see it on slow motion.  That’s the whole point of subliminal messages: the human eye cannot see it but your unconscious can.  McDonald was a sponsor of the show but claimed they don’t do subliminal advertising… On the other hand, the television network stated it was a technical error on their part.  Let’s leave them the benefit of the doubt.

I’m hungry all of a sudden.  Anyone wants a burger? :)

Pavlov would be proud

Have you seen…?  No wait.  Of course you’ve seen it, it’s EVERYWHERE!; the not-so-new campaign for Koodo Mobile.  They have literally invaded the Medias.  They even have their own game on Facebook now!  By brainwashing teenagers with non-stop repetitions of the same music, visual and slogan, you create a new trend which inevitably has your campaign benefit from it.  Hi five to the agency who thought this concept.  Personally, I never liked it but I must admit the goal was reached: if you ask me to list different mobile brands, Koodo comes in the top 3.  No doubt about it.

Now, it’s been running since what, April and I don’t know for you, but I am now officially sick of it!  "Too much is not enough" my mom once told me.  After a while, the message becomes transparent.  This is not Pavlov experience where you just have to ring the bell and the dog salivates again and again and…Always!  If you are to do such a campaign, I believe you should be capable of having your concept evolve with time, bring it to the next level.  This is how you keep your target audience's attention.

I don’t pretend to have the undeniable truth but seriously, I’ve seen enough headbands...

Natural order of things

Don’t you find it sad that today’s world is getting more and more impersonal?  Everyday, we cross people on the street but fear to smile at them; we’d rather wait for the ATM machine then walk straight to the counter; we even send emails & text messages instead of simply using the phone and talk…  But hey, I’m not judging anyone.  After all, we all do it!  I just thought that for my blog page it would be nice for my readers to know more about me.

Where to start?  I've been working in the fascinating world of advertising for the last 2 years now and guilty as charged: I just can't get enough!  I work for an established publishing company which owns magazines, newspapers and…websites.  THAT is where I belong: Digital Media.  I work with the marketing team as a project manager.  Since our department is still young, we therefore have a lot going on; launches, re-launches and acquisitions as well.  I handle all the promotion there is to do (clients & users) around these sites.  It allows me to discover advertising through several Medias: print, web, radio, television and events.  To sum it up, my job consists in 2 major goals:

1)    Bring more traffic on our sites

2)    Bring even more traffic on our sites and get the users to come back!  (Easy will you say..try it.)

PS: Who would have thought that a small piece of me would one day be on the World Wide Web!  Somehow, I now feel like I belong with others. It’s true; pretty much everyone around me already has their own blog.  So here I am now..!
