and....
2008 Clios Coverage

Miami Beach is a nice place.
A place where everything is bigger and shinier.
It's a wonderful setting for an advertising award show.
And the last place you'd expect to run into Ralph Steadman - the legendary illustrator/artist/author and the longtime collaborator/friend of Gonzo aka Hunter S Thompson.
In this episode - we talk to Ralph and find out what he thinks about advertising.

And a free bonus this week - a collection of sound bites from the 2008 Clios in Miami.

In other news...
We've received numerous letters from fans of AdBeats all around the world.
Here's an excerpt from a recent letter set to us by Frank from Brooklyn:
"AdBeats is the f$### bomb. The mixes are tight and the selections are slammin. Everytime I listen to AdBeats, I break out into the running man involuntarily. Is this normal?"
...
Thank you Frank from Brooklyn. You can go ahead and relax.
A spontaneous busting of running man when exposed to AdBeats is a common phenomenon. It's your body's way of telling you: "I like." In fact, we recommend the following tutorial to help you take your enjoyment of AdBeats to the next level.
Happy dancing. Enjoy!
And in the words of the Godfather of Funk: "step back and kiss yourself."

VOLUME 15 | chasing chickens

Ibraheem Youssef (Art Director, BOS) joins us for an in-depth discussion on unconventional brainstorming methods that will propel you into the upper echelon of cutting edge creativity. Originating in Egypt, these ancient practices are reportedly the key to unconventional thinking - but they require great sacrifice and commitment on the part of the creative.
Music from The Mack, Electrons, Dimlite, Mark E, Balkan Beat Box and many others.

VOLUME 13 | papercut

Tommy Zee transforms into Optimus Rhyme.
Then he takes over the turntables to bang out a devastating manic mix that doesn't spare any genre.
Once the dust settles, we welcome Roz Bell, whose forthcoming album "The First Sunbeams" is about to make a whole lotta noise.
We chat, we drink and then Roz breaks into an acoustic rendition of some of the material from the upcoming album.
(We also feature his upcoming single, Papercut , that noone is supposed to play yet...in fact, Universal will probably sue us. Hmmmm. Not bad...we can use more publicity)

VOLUME 12 | WTF?!

AdBeats is back after a brief holiday.
Vol 12 opens with a short story from the chief rocka at BBDO Canada: Jack Neary. A little later, we hear from the rest of the BBDO crew: Jamie Marcovitch, Craig McIntosh and Todd Cornelius.
In the meantime, Tommy Zee paints a rather reflective sonic landscape, by seamlessly blending new music from Matthew Dear, Flow Dynamics, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Orgone, People Press Play and many others.
Vol 12 concludes with a round table discussion on mind provoking topics like: orange juice, coffee, canoes and believing in what you advertise - with creatives from BOS agency in Toronto.
Here's a link to the WTF virals mentioned in our discussion.

VOLUME 11 | Good Vibrations

Volume 11 begins with a rather rare and curious sonic specimen: a theme song from a 1969 film named: Le Cerveau (The Brain). Performed by American Breed who split up later that year.
You may know American Breed from their one and only hit: "Bend Me, Shape Me" which hit #5 on the Billboard charts in '68.
For more on American Breed, click here.
For more on the film - Le Cerveau, click here.
Incidentally, there's also a DJ crew that spins rare, bizarre and "freaky music" (as they themselves proclaim) that goes by the monicker, The Brain. It's fairly obvious they were inspired by the movie.
You can checkout their page and mixes...intriguing stuff.....right here.
Once we get that out of the way...Vol 11 spirals out of control as agency folk invade the studio, drink all the alcohol and begin to request oldies but goodies.
Good times. Good vibrations. Literally.

VOLUME 10 | The Hangover Mix

There's no medically proven cure for a hangover.
But researchers are now experimenting with a combination of: water, Vitamin B12 and AdBeats Vol 10 as a possible remedy for creatives and industry types, recovering from award show bedlams.
Early test subjects showed promising results such as: improved motor skills, increased happiness and an immediate desire to drink again.
Vol 10 features live blues, beautiful chill grooves and a rare, limited edition, goosebump giving, running man inducing, headbang causing, office trashing remix of Rage Against The Machine from Sebastien.
Here's a link to "Lighting in a Bottle" documentary, mentioned by Tommy Zee in the intro segment.

VOLUME 9 | LIVE FROM MIAMI!

When Will Smith speaks, we listen.
So when the Former Fresh Prince advised us to:
"Party in the city where the heat is on...."
We did.
AdBeats Vol 9 is a Live transmission from the Clios in Miami, featuring insightful discussions by the hotel poolside and cameos from: Ignacio Oreamuno (President, Ihaveanidea), Johnny Vulcan (Anomaly, NYC), Ibraheem Youssef (Future Gold Finalist and AD at BOS in Toronto), Krystal Plomatos (Write What U Know on AdBlogs), Guillermo Fernandez (homeless AD from Diego Haymann & Partners in Miami) and many less.
We endured on this exhausting business trip, so you don't have to...
You should be thankful.
