Are agency recruiters simply stringing us along?

Dear Jancy,

My partner and I are a Sr. Level creative team. We put together a killer site and started hitting headhunters (unproductive for the most part) and emailing recruiters and CDs. Out of that group, we’ve gotten interest from some of the hot shops’ recruiters. They show very encouraging interest, say they’re gonna fly us immediately in for interviews, or show our work to the ECDs and then leave us hanging. We try to move the conversation forward once or twice a week, at times using other interviews as leverage for action, but no cigar. Are we doing something wrong? Why aren’t they proceeding? It drives us crazy! It’s been 2.5 months already. What do we need to do to seal the deal?

intro Are agency recruiters simply stringing us along? To be honest, it sounds like it’s them, not you. It’s bad manners and worse. They aren’t giving their agencies a good name by behaving like boors. You are doing everything you can do, and we wouldn’t push it further. Move on, assume they aren’t serious. Maybe you’ll hear from them when you’re in your new jobs (sounds like you have a lot of talent, it won’t be long). Then your turn to blow them off.

The experience a person has with me (over the phone, via email, in person) translates to the experience they have with my agency. I represent the company. And if I never respond, it’s a reflection on them. It’s the whole Faberge Organics mindset. That one candidate will tell two friends how (nice/bad) they were treated and then they’ll tell two friends and so on and so on.

headhunters are the worst breed in the advertising industry. usually false faceted, exclusively profit focused and the most frustrated as they usually are the ones who tried to get into creative or planning but somehow couldn’t'
