An AD in my school, but a planner in my heart

Hi Jancy, I am in my third year of advertising design. I have always wanted to be an art director, but for some reason I don’t feel that passion my friends have for this business. Adding to it every lecturer says “I know creative people hate research and just want to create ideas…” but I hate creating ideas and love to do research for insights or building strategies. Sometimes I feel like I should just change my profession – instead of being art director I should be a strategist? But I don’t really want to leave school at this point either. Is this feeling common? Or its just me…..HELP ME

intro An AD in my school, but a planner in my heartSounds like you should investigate becoming a planner. You are right to question the creative path—your heart isn’t in it. You won’t find success or happiness without passion for the job. It’s good that you do have a real interest on the account services side of the agency. Changing direction now is nothing to feel bad about. Way better now than later. Make the move.
