A junior in years, but not in experience

I am an art director with three years experience. I have been fortunate to do things most young art directors haven’t gotten to do – lots of print ads, tv spots, interactive, out of home and in store. Because of this, I think I am qualified for jobs seeking art directors with more experience but I worry HR and CDs will stop reading when they look at the technical years. Is the actual year number overlooked if the work shows more experience? Thanks in advance for your advice.

intro A junior in years, but not in experience3 years in ad years is longer than 3 years in some professions—it’s not “junior” anymore. If your portfolio shows lots of diversity and excellence across many platforms you’ll be a strong potential hire at a lot of places. Should you gun for a ‘senior’ position? Probably not, but there’s no harm raising your hand for any job that interests you. Sounds like you’re well poised for success as you move up the ladder.
