Torn between becoming a creative or a suit. Help!

Hi Jancy,
I’m currently an undergrad student in an advertising program with a concentration in management. I’m also currently taking a class on Copywriting and I’m discovering that I do have some writing skills. My professor is suggesting I make the switch.
Any advice for somebody who is almost torn between the two? Have you ever heard of an Account and/or Traffic person making the switch over?
The big turn off for me personally is the pressure to make a portfolio and having to jump around between agencies lugging it around before landing the job.
P.S. – I’m currently reading Pick Me too and it’s great. Though it’s probably making me more divided between the two.

intro Torn between becoming a creative or a suit. Help!We know several great copywriters who started in different spots—account services, law, even accounting. Angus Tucker, CD and partner at John St. In Toronto and Peter Ignazi CD at BBDO Toronto leap to mind. People with left and right brain working equally are well prepared to be leaders. You give an important clue that you shouldn’t run down the creative path. If you see creating a portfolio as a “turnoff”, there’s really no point. People who succeed as creatives are passionate about the process and the product. That doesn’t sound like you.
