How can I get CDs to notice me and my work?

Hi Jancy!
This is me writing from Melbourne, Australia.
I’m struggling to get work experience in agencies here. I’ve done the cold calling and emailing but its hard to get a reply. Although some agencies have been really polite and nice.
What is the best way for me to get a work placement? Obviously I will do it for free.
Should I just turn up to their doors and start knocking? Some says that works but I do feel its a bit intrusive.
Thank you!!!

intro How can I get CDs to notice me and my work?Be disruptive. And you can do that whether emailing or calling for an appointment. You have to cut through the crowd and you need to think of getting through to the CD the same as cracking any communications challenge. Your subject line makes all the difference in email. It really helps if you can use a respected name as a recco (“X says it’s worth your time to see me”). The number one thing all CD’s lack is time. If they see a credible person liked you, they are much more likely to go ahead and book the time, or at least, have a look at your work online. If you don’t have that name to wave around, be creative. What subject line would make it impossible to not open your note? And it may be an old technique, but really creative self promotion pieces can do the job. In all cases, know who you’re targeting. A totally generic message won’t go as far as one that shows you know who you’re pitching to.

Even if there isn’t an opening, most CD’s want to see great young talent for future reference. You may see the next person down the ladder but that’s valuable experience too.
