Looking to formally compensate a friend for his help

Hi “Jancy”
I have a question about compensation. I have a new biz and am excited about working on one of our very first accounts!
I was introduced to this client by a mutual friend and it seems as if this friend has several more potential clients that he can introduce to me as well (not a bad friend to have icon wink Looking to formally compensate a friend for his help . The whole thing is a bit informal but yet effective. This friend essentially introduces me to the client, puts in a good word and occasionally joins us on conference calls when needed (although this is infrequent). My team handles everything else. Anyway, we are trying to figure out a fair form of compensation for his services and I am looking for advice. Is he essentailly a sales agent? An account exec? something in between? Ideally I would like to pay this friend per job. Do you have any idea what type of parameters we should set?
Essentially, what job title would you give him for his services and how would you pay him per job?
My hope is to find a fair number that promotes a good solid working relationship.
Thanks for your help!

intro Looking to formally compensate a friend for his helpSounds like a very good friend indeed. It’s not clear to us what your friend is expecting, if anything, besides your appreciation. Why not do the obvious and ask him what you could do for him to formalize his introductions? From there you’d have a better Ask Jancy question.
