How important is ad school if I want to be a planner?

It started with those VW ads that resonated with me in a way that I hadn’t thought possible for a medium such as advertising… and now there’s no denying it, I am hooked! I have an undergrad degree in marketing and am considering applying to ad school next year. Although I’m incredibly passionate about the creativity that drives the industry, I don’t think I’m quite cut out to be a creative. Account planning seems like it would better highlight my skill sets.Would a degree from ad school/portfolio be as important for planning? I am interested in the communications strategy program at VCU Brandcenter. Do you have any suggestions as to what I could do during this year, while I am getting my application together, to prepare myself so that I can get the most out of the program?

Thank you so much for your dedication to giving back, I’m sure your mentorship has been invaluable to countless others, as it has been for me icon smile How important is ad school if I want to be a planner?

intro How important is ad school if I want to be a planner? We enthusiastically endorse the VCU Brandcenter for planners. We’ve seen people transformed by the experience. Yes, it can make all the difference to your future and if you can have that experience, you will never be sorry. It’s a big leg up going into the business. We don’t know how to suggest you “prepare” for it, other than get as much evidence of understanding and passion for the business under your belt as you can. They look for that in all applicants.
