Can reclusive people make it in advertising?

Before I get myself in a big pickle, I need some advice. The facts: I’m in my 30′s, considering going to ad school and investing quite a bit of money, already have a BA in English, have both writing and art skills. What keeps me from getting too excited is essentially my reclusive nature. I am not much of a people person and like to have my quiet moments to think. Is there any room for such an animal as myself in your world?

intro Can reclusive people make it in advertising? It really does help to be a “people person” if you’re going to be in the business of communications. There are notably shy people that make it in advertising so we won’t say rule it out. But you get furthest, easiest if you’re a team player, naturally curious about others (especially clients) and outgoing. Many creative people need quiet space to think of ideas and often people leave the building to work elsewhere for that reason. So that’s not a deal breaker. Perhaps the most important question to ask yourself is, do you have a passionate interest in this business? If so, look hard at it and work on being less reclusive. People aren’t as bad as all that.
