Lack of minorities in creative departments

Why does the lack of women in creative departments get so much attention in our industry (especially in Canada), but the lack of minorities in creative departments doesn’t?
Do you think it’s because there aren’t as many minorities in high up creative positions to be able to bring light to the topic, unlike the amount of women in high up creative positions?

intro Lack of minorities in creative departmentsThere’s a glaring omission where women and minorities should be in our industry. It’s a white man’s game to this day; advertising is lagging behind other industries who have made it more of a priority to be inclusive. So you know, even in Canada, where several shops have women at the top, they’re in the distinct minority. We’d guess there are no more than 5% female creative directors globally, probably less. It seems to us that there needs to be strong voices from all groups being left out, and will from the white men to make change happen. The industry stands to gain from diversity and that’s where the will should come in. The narrow perspective coming from one group can’t be ideal, and when you consider 95% of ads are annoying or worse, it’s not like they’ve proven to be a bunch of geniuses who don’t need any help from anyone else.
