Moving from post-production to creative

Hi, I am from India. I have 7 years work experience in design, 3d-2d animation and post production in documentary films. My main question is I want to move into the advertising field. I met CD’s at JWT and O| AMP|M; they told me that it’s difficult to move into advertising with my background. My mind is very good in concept making and art direction. Please tell me what should I do for my next step?

intro Moving from post production to creativeWe would agree with those CD’s that it’s a big shift from where you are now into advertising. You have a very interesting background for it—it’s terrific to have those skills to bring to the party. But we would suggest the way to get into the business is to go to a good ad school/program and get the education you most definitely need. It’s not something you can just pick up on the job. You have much to learn, and your strength in conceptual thinking and “art direction” are a good place to build from. Ask those CD’s what schools they recommend and check them out. Good luck.
