Keeping abreast of job opportunities from afar

I’m a Graphic Designer from Glasgow, Scotland thinking of moving to Toronto.
I have 4 years experience working in print and advertising with a wee bit of multimedia.
I was wondering what kind of salary to expect with my experience and what would be the best way of keeping track of the jobs availabel in the city.
Hope you can help!

intro Keeping abreast of job opportunities from afarWe wish we could help, but graphic design is quite a separate business from advertising in Canada. (Except for the odd agency that offers both services which is, so far, pretty uncommon.) Our best advice would be to find headhunters who place people in your field. They would be able to give you a rough idea of your range. We’re guessing that, like in advertising, salaries have as much to do with the quality of your portfolio as with your mileage. So chances are there’s no clear cut answer. How about sending a mini-portfolio to creative directors of design firms? Then you have an excuse to talk them about where they think you fit. Which could help you land a job. You can tell them to send the headhunting (terrible word) commission to Jancy.
