I’m hearing that ad school doesn’t have much credibility. HELP!


I am currently in the Creative advertising program at Seneca’s School of Communication Arts at York. I am aware of the program’s popularity and great facilities, however, many rumors have been brought to my attention about the school’s credibitly as a whole. I would like to know if these negative rumors are at all true, or if in fact the program’s reputation is not very far from reaching the excellent reputation that Humber and OACD carry. I would like to graduate the program with not only a great knowledge of the industry, but insurance that my place of education will help to land me a decent job at a decent firm.

intro Im hearing that ad school doesnt have much credibility. HELP!There aren’t a lot of great advertising schools in Canada, or anywhere else. We’ve named our favourites many times on this site: in Canada, you’re right, it’s OCAD and Humber. Our idea of the perfect school is the VCU Adcenter in Richmond, Virginia. Check out their site and see what’s possible if you can swing a pricey master’s degree program (well worth it). We suggest that if you want to know how good your school is, or any other, ask that school to show you their best student work and point to their successful graduates. If the work you see isn’t excellent, isn’t inspiring, that’s a bad sign and a reasonable indication you shouldn’t expect an excellent education. Track down some of the graduates. They’ll tell you about their own experience, and you’ll see what kinds of jobs they’ve landed. Use your own judgement at that point on continuing to invest in your current experience.
