About to graduate, but not sure if advertising is right for me

I am one of the students whom you have presented to at Mohawk College in Hamilton.. (great job by the way!) and I’m wondering which direction I should take for my career. I have been working in Special Events for about 6 months part time with the College and thought I’de like to go in that direction however now I’m thinking I may want to go into Marketing. I will be graduating in April, 2004 from the Creative side of the Advertising program. Do you have any suggestions for which area of marketing specifically I should conquer with my Advertising diploma? I’m a creative person but I don’t think creating ads on a mac for my profession is for me. I would love some guidance from professionals who say exactly how it is. I look forward to hearing from you!

intro About to graduate, but not sure if advertising is right for meYou’ve majored in marketing and specifically creative, so presumably you have been on a path towards becoming a writer or art director. And yet, at this late date, you say you don’t think it’s for you. Fair enough. Fact is, to make it in this business, you have to have an absolute burning passion for creating ads to have a shot at succeeding at it. So we think you can safely rule yourself out. But you don’t give us any clues to what does interest you, only what doesn’t. We’ll just give the heads up at this point that you’re close to graduating all dressed up with nowhere to go. Talk to Wayne Aubert for some guidance counselling. He impressed us when he worked at Ogilvy as a print production manager, and now he’s clearly a motivated and motivating Mohawk professor. You need to have a long talk with such a person. You’ve got a lot to figure out in a short amount of time.
