Help! I need an internship!

I am currently a senior at a university in Pennsylvania. I will be moving to the GTA soon and I need an internship in order to graduate. I have been trying to get some information from just about anyone in advertising for a long time now and no one will reply. I really need an internship soon and I don’t know what to do. I’ve tried e-mailing and going through some contacts that I have, but nothing works. What can I do to get an internship in Toronto or the surrounding area? Please help!

intro Help! I need an internship! There are a few agencies in Toronto that now offer year-round internships of varying lengths. The ones we know of are Grey, Leo Burnett and Ogilvy. Send samples of your work to Marc Stoiber at Grey, Judy John at Leo and me or Janet here at Ogilvy. If it’s through e- mail use a title that will get noticed and opened. Like, “free intern from U of Penn.” If you send it Fedex it should get opened (kind of expensive but effective)—again, leave a voicemail for the CD’s in advance that a Fedex package is coming from a U of Penn student eager to work as an intern. If your work shows you have real potential you’ll get a shot. The possible complication here is immigration. Do you have Canadian citizenship? If not, there are some immigration issues to be straightened out, even though you’re free (we assume you’re free).

Assuming a bunch of things (you’re a citizen, your portfolio is strong, you have a place to stay here and can afford to be here for no pay), even if these intern-friendly agencies don’t have a slot for you, the CD’s should be able to give you some advice on other places. Hope you find something.
