Putting Canada on the global ad biz map

As veterans within Canada’s advertising industry, what do you believe is needed to put our country on the advertising map?

intro Putting Canada on the global ad biz mapHigh profile, great work. That’ll do it, and is doing it more every year. Canada did well at Cannes again this year, and made an impressive showing at the Clios, CA and One Show. Many other international shows have Canadian work shining through. ihaveanidea, with a mission to shine a light on Canadian work, is helpful, too. Canadians selected to judge international shows also become ambassadors for our product; that chance to meet the world’s best creatives and spread the word is valuable.

We’d like to see a world-class book of Canada’s best work available to the world. Only one Canadian show we know of has worldwide distribution, and it isn’t one of the better shows. And not a great looking book. The Bessies site isn’t well known, and the biggest shows don’t have proper books. Will someone please sort that out?

It’s a time when Canadian agencies need to push back harder than ever when the U.S. work is offered up for our market. To be on the map we need to keep creating our own work. And at a time when clients are fearful, research is killing more work than ever. We all need to be smarter than ever as we formulate the arguements against these big impediments to doing great work.
