Craziest ad shooting stories?

Hi Jancy, I am an account guy in a small agency from the States. I bet you both must travel a great deal making commercials. I wonder what strange and interesting shoots have you been to? Ever shoot in a tropical location? Or perhaps in the rain at night? just curious.

intro Craziest ad shooting stories?You can’t imagine what freaks we are with all our experience and very few “exotic” location shoots to speak of. We don’t often (ever) have big budgets to work with. Our ideas have to carry the day; no “open on palm tree” (unless it’s stock, of course). Our most famous campaign, for Timex Indiglo, was made for about $5,000 per spot. That’s an extreme example, and we got dumb-lucky that the idea was so simple it only called for a small budget. Most of our shoots are done here in Toronto, which has subbed for many a location. We’ve spent a hell of a lot of time in studios and sitting in houses (where we usually use several rooms, each passing for a different location). Boy do we know how to stretch a buck. Our best recent story was just such a shoot, where we found out the fake couple in the spot seemed to have hit it off and ran off together right after the shoot. Not really much of a story. Sorry. Our best travel stories are actually related to working for the Ogilvy network, which means yearly travels to places like Bangkok and Cape Town, as long as we keep our status among the best offices in the network. Better than the locations, has been hanging out with the stars of the network, like Neil French. We’ll have to save those stories for another day.
