Why do you mentor juniors?

I’ve heard from industry gossip that you are famous for mentoring juniors. My question is, why do you waste time with little people when your massive international agency budgets can probably afford you to get the best and most talented seniors in the biz?

intro Why do you mentor juniors? We’ve had some incredible senior talent come through our doors, and will always do our best to keep this shop populated with the best and the brightest at a senior level. Equally, we’ve had many of our best success stories with kids we’ve trained right out of school. We can’t overstate the value of truly fresh eyes and hearts. People who don’t know too much are often in a position to see a problem from the freshest perspective. Boundless energy and enthusiasm are something you want to infect a creative department, too. And of course, we get to mould them to our idea of what works; custom-made creatives (of course, that only works up to a point, thank God). Many of our juniors have not only done very well here, but have gone on to have great experiences at top shops in many other markets. We’re surprised more creative directors don’t make the time to hire and train juniors. The pay-off can be huge, for all involved.
