Is it just as hard to break into account management?


Dear Jancy, I know that the advertising business is hard to get into, but most of the people who I hear complaining about not getting a job are people who are into the CREATIVE SIDE of advertising. Is it the same for the business side? And if so, where can you work with and Account Management diploma? How did your Account Execs get started?

intro Is it just as hard to break into account management?Your letter suggests that you believe it’s tougher to get into creative than into account management. You’re probably right to assume that there are more account people being hired than creatives. This is simply because in most agencies there are more account management jobs than creative jobs. With few exceptions, agencies usually have more than twice as many account as creative guys. Even so, it’s tough to start anywhere these days. In our shop and maybe in others there are now internships for account managers just like there are for creatives. Why not try for one of those positions? You won’t get rich, but will get experience and that could make all the difference.
