Starting salaries for account managers?

Thank-you for answering my question last week, and I’ve got more for you: In my marketing class, we got a list of salaries for different titles in advertising. I’m interested in the account management. Is it true that account Executives start out at 25,000 a year at private agencies or is it all agencies? and if so why so low? How long do you have to stay at one level before you move up? Gr. 11 student

intro Starting salaries for account managers?Sad, but true my friend. Ad agencies aren’t the place to work if you want to get rich quick. As far as we know, that is a common starting salary for any agency and any agency job, including creative.

There are no rules as to how long a person has to stay at any given level. Until they’re ready to move on which is at the discretion of their managers. But levels in ad agencies aren’t the same as levels in client organizations. There are no G-6s who grow up to be G-7s or 8s. Agencies are quite organic in their structures and as long as you’re learning and growing and doing a good job, you can expect to see salary increases without changing levels. (Of course, the salary increases tend to be small in the early going. If you get through the first few years, that’s when it really starts to pay you back.) In words of Mr. Spock – live long and prosper.
