Two to tango, but one to brainstorm

I get creative blocks when I work in groups, yet my CD swears by group brainstorming and my partner shares the same office, so I am never alone to think. Because of this I am blocked up 24/7. How can I change my brainstorming ways?

intro Two to tango, but one to brainstormWe’ve never been big on the group brainstorm thing, either. If you need to have some ‘alone time’, just go somewhere outside the office for coffee, whatever. Try working with your partner at home one day. If you have good ideas to show for it, your CD shouldn’t have a problem with it. Remember that being blocked is a way of life for most creatives—a constant barrier to overcome. (That little voice in your head that says “I’m a hack” is in everyone else’s head, too.) There are many tricks to getting unblocked, whether alone, with your partner or in a group. Fundamental truths: quantity leads to quality, and don’t self-edit because you’re afraid your idea may be stupid (it probably is and it may well spark an idea that’s actually good).
