ihaveanidea commissions witch to forge creativity potion

ihaveanidea, Advertising’s Intellectual Archive, is proud to announce that it has commissioned a witch, Heidi Reiss, to forge a potion that will enhance the creative abilities of advertising professionals around the world.

“Ads around the world haven’t been that inspiring lately,” says Ignacio Oreamuno, President of ihaveanidea. “I think that everyone in the industry needs a little spark— a little touch of magic. As a result, we decided to ask Heidi Reiss, a real certified witch to create a magic potion that would enhance the creative abilities of copywriters and art directors around the world." The potion is aligned with Topaz together with yellow candle and Frankincense incense. It was created under a full moon, which according to Heidi, is the ‘phase during which vast sources of spiritual power may be harnessed’. Hopefully, with the help of this creativity potion, consumers won’t have to keep on muting their TV’s during commercial breaks.

Creativity in a bottle.
Is your creativity blocked? If so, help is available in the form of a little magic bottle. Feel your ideas flow with my fragrant and effective Creativity Potion. It will refresh your mind and stimulate your imagination!

ABOUT HEIDI

Ever since I can remember, I have had vivid psychic experiences including telepathic communication, prophetic dreams and contact with supernatural forces. Even as a child, my parents told me that I knew about events before they happened.

Pick your potion.
While growing up, psychics told me that I had a gift, but only I would know when the time would be right to use it. Twenty-five years ago, I was given a set of old Tarot cards. So began my journey of self-discovery.

For the last 20 years, I have enjoyed doing private Tarot card readings, using my strong intuitive power, with help from “my angels”, to answer questions and provide guidance. At that time, I began developing my own personal power by meditating, visualizing, concentrating and using my imagination.

I have always been in awe of the unique power of Nature and the energy it holds. By using personal power together with Nature’s power, and combining these with spiritual energy, I create magic. As a Solitary Witch practicing white magic, I help those who desire change in their lives.

THE MAGICAL PROCESS

Preparing the potion is a delicate process that can only be done under the gaze of the full moon.
I make my Creativity Potion on the night of a Full Moon - its most potent phase during which vast sources of spiritual power may be harnessed.

The first step in this magical process, is writing my magic spell. Spells are very personal and cannot be revealed! A spell is a verbal expression of a specific wish. Like a prayer, a spell finds its energy from the spell-caster. Meditation, visualization, concentration, and imagination are all required to send forth energy for the intent of a spell to grow and manifest into reality.

When performing all my magical workings, I use several tools, which I place on my altar.
These were all previously consecrated under a Full Moon.

The cup is my primary tool to channel focused energy. It is made of silver, which has long been associated with the Moon. For my Creativity Potion, this magical container holds a mixture of light sunflower and corn oil to which I add Clary Sage oil. This lovely essential oil, light golden yellow in color, brings forth creative thought. Its properties relax and calm the mind, thereby dissolving fears and anxieties that create emotional blocks. Next, I mix in all my dry ingredients: a ground bay leaf and celery seed to enhance mental powers, a finely ground leaf from a willow tree (known as the tree of dreaming and inspiration), a grated lime rind which awakens the senses and refreshes the mind, chamomile for its stress management properties and finally, a grated orange rind representing success. (Well, what good is coming up with a great idea and not making it successful)! While blending all these together, I recite my magic spell.

All the necessary items are in place.
Next to my cup, I light a candle, which I anoint with the oil mixture. I carefully consider what color of candle to burn as each color has its own magical associations. Gazing into the flame is, to me, the purest means of focusing in on energy and power. It also helps send a specific message to the Universe.

When making my Creativity Potion, I burn a yellow candle. Yellow is associated with the Sun, and I use it when dealing with matters involving mental alertness, creative works, success and happiness.

Along with the candle, I burn incense to infuse the air with magical intent. Frankincense is my incense of choice when working on my Creativity Potion. It helps to stimulate positive vibrations.

The cup is my primary tool to channel focused energy.
Stones and crystals have long been viewed as possessing magical influences. Each type contains its own unique properties. For any issues involving creativity, I place a Topaz next to my silver cup, along with a Quartz Crystal, to amplify power.

The four Elements (Earth, Air, Fire and Water) play significant roles in our daily lives. They are extremely powerful sources of energy, and as such, help to boost the magic. As a magical practitioner, I incorporate the Elemental energies into the ritual process. On my altar, Earth is represented by a cup of salt, Air by incense, Fire by a burning candle and Water by a cup of water.

Bored, or just stupid? Ignacio, you really should know better and understand how offensive and spiritually repugnant your "bit of fun" is to many believers of different faiths (eg Christian, Muslim and Jewish) . Grow up. And get back to what you're meant to be doing. Interview creative directors, interns, shopkeepers, salesmen. Do a piece on the boring factory tour that creatives have to do, talk to film directors....
If you're stuck for ideas, for goodness sake, I'LL write something for you (about the advertising industry in Scotland and the UK) .
But please don't resort to this.

you're an ass angus

why don't you write something for ihaveanidea then instead of saying you could for goodness sake.

and by the way, which faith is it that doesn't have a sense of humour mister preachy pants?
Posted by werewaiting
Hey dipshit...

there is a difference between humor and witchcraft, which is a blantant offense to anyone who is Jewish, Muslin, or christian. By the way, you are the minority here.
Posted by werewaiting
I'm not sure I understand the sense of the remark that witchcraft is a "blatant offense to anyone who is Jewish, Muslim, or Christian (but not, evidently, to anyone who is Hindi or Buddhist...). Wicca is only another religion -- brutally crushed out in Europe by Christianity, one might add, so who has more right to be offended? Unless the writer of that comment is confusing Wicca with 1960s Hammer Films' "devil worship" witchcraft? 600 years ago, one could--and did -- say that Islam or Judaism was a "blatant offense" against Christianity; today, some are saying that Judaism and Christianity are blatant offenses against Islam.
Posted by P Zink
I'll take a dozen and sent little viles in bulk to the people constantly cranking out pure shit. And I'll keep a few for myself in hopes they will prevent me from becoming a hack. Whoever is offended needs to pull the sharpie markers out of their asses. You may be able to benefit from some extra creativity, or at least from a good chuckle. And if your mind is so far closed, get out of the industry. We don't need you anymore.
Posted by adsntequila
Adsntequila... Maybe if you got some extra creativity you could learn to spell vial.

And P Zink, all those three faiths expressly forbid their adherents to take part in any form of witchcraft. So what are you suggesting? That all these people should throw what they believe out of the window? Are they inferior? Superstitious? Stupid?
You don;t need to check your brain in at the door to be a believer, nor to be a creative. But there seems to be an awful lot of ignorance and intolerance being thrown around here.
I'm not talking about burning witches, I'm simply pointing out, with respect, that an awful lot of people find witchcraft not something to be joked about. Each to his own, but please understand and be sensitive to others.
Lastly a note again for adsntequila. KNowing what you believe and what you;re not prepared to dabble with doesn't represent a closed mind, just a clear one. I would never insult anyone of any other faith (or even none) but that doesn't mean I'm going to accept everything in the world as right and that we should all try everything once.
If you know, you choose what to do and what to avoid. Otherwise we'd all be drinking bleach.

Maybe it offends you that religious people are found in the advertising fraternity. In which case, my friend, it is you that has the closed mind.

Now see if you can state your case without resorting to personal abuse, or is that too much to ask?

Peace

Angus

Relax people. It appears that Ignacio and his team are having a little bit of fun, nothing more. I don't recall this kind of uproar when they had the 'so you're the creative director?' thongs for sale.

Angus mentioned in one of his above posts that he should write an article for ihaveanidea. I don't know if he intends to do so, but I'd imagine it would be appreciated. After all, there is a link right at the top of the articles page asking people to do just that, and to contribute to this fantastic and free resource.

I'm fortunate to live in Toronto and have met the ihaveanidea team a number of times. People seem to forget that these people aren't Pulitzer winning investigative journalists. They aren't coming to the table with 30 years of experience under their belts. They are a group of young, passionate individuals who have been building this site out of sheer love of this business. If part of their love involves having a silly little voodoo spell that you may or may not buy, then so be it. It's nothing to get riled up about, considering everything else they've done for this business, the overwhelming majority of it at zero cost to those who benefit the most.

Keep up the wonderful work ihaveanidea. You must have been taking that potion yourselves all these years.

Congrats Graham! It would seem that you are the only one besides myself to take this article for what it is...a mildly entertaining distraction from work.

Everyone should stop beating this dead horse of a mildly amusing (to most of us) joke and move along. Regrets to the more strictly religious readers, but most of us don't find this offensive. Call it Lowest Common Denominator or Tyranny of the Majority, but however you slice it, that's the way it is.
Posted by P Zink
It would seem some people are easily offended. Perhaps Angus needs to learn to ignore those things that so easily offend him, or ask himself why he is so easily offended.

I used to get easily offended until I learned to disconnect the buttons I was allowing other people to push.

As for the numbers of Wiccans, I wonder where they get their numbers? Wicca does not keep records of members and most are solitary. But then I find religious statistic nebulous at best. I have never found the numbers game to prove anything of value about a religion.

A good advertiser can sell anything, from a can of beer, a politician, or a religion. The fact that great number of people use something may only mean a successful advertising campaign, not that the product is any good.
Wow. That sure is a lot of copy. But then, they always had a ton of copy in the olden days when they sold snake oil and patent medicines. Let's advertise like it's 1899!
Posted by Danny
Ironically sugar pills[Placebos] often work better than any actually medicine if people believe they are getting a powerful medication. Medicine works differently according to both the doctor's and patient's belief about it. Believe aspirin is good only for minor pain and so it is. Believe it is a powerful pain reliever and that is true also.

I am surprised that someone in the advertising business doesn't know the power of people's beliefs. Belief is often the bread and butter of advertising and building up a belief in your product is what advertising is all about.

Building up belief is how government sells young men and women on going to war and risking their lives. The passionate belief sold may have nothing to do with the real reasons for having the war, but convincing the young to believe it is a basic necessity to get people to risk their lives.

Creating and selling belief can of course be used for good or for ill, but the process is much the same regardless of the purpose of its use.
Graham
You;re right. I'm no longer on my high horse. And no longer flogging it.

And if I could think of another horse analogy I might insert it here.

OK. Ideas for articles?

I like the idea of comparing working in Scotland to working in Canada.

We both have a big fat arrogant neighbour to the South of us that we love to hate ND constantly fight with to win better work and try to keep our indigenous clients (and creative teams). Sometimes we score victiories, ofetn we get steamrollered by sheer force of money and numbers.

Whaddya think?

Angus,

May a Yank toss you a few ideas to play around with. Use anything that seems useful, toss the rest.

I am always surprised that Canada seems to like the US at all. We are probably at least as dangerous to their economy and control as much as England controls much of Scotland's economy.

Both Scotland and Canada need to develop a certain amount of economic independence for their own safety. England has too many ties with the USA and if the USA falls then England could go with it. I am not sure how fast the USA could fall, but I suspect it is already happening but we Americans are too deep in denial to notice.

Scotland 'might' look towards Ireland to get some ideas as it was once pretty much under England's thumb and seem to have become very much independent.

Take advantage of the things that are particulraly Scotish and forming ties to other economies would seem like a good idea. Your Scotish teams should have a good idea of what Scotish people like, so use that knowledge. Find ways of using Scotish money rather than English. Scots might just support Scotish projects a bit better than English.

America used plenty of foriegn money but they made sure the management team was American. The same technique might work in Scotland. The more companies in Scotland that have Scotish management and Scotish stockholders and Scotish boards, the more independence you have.

I wish Canada was more independent. A lot of Americans may have to move there to get away from our increasingly corrupt and ruthless government.

Those are just ideas of mine. Naturally think them through on your own and take what seems useful and trash the rest. You know your country's situation a lot better than most of us here in the United States. We only get a world minute on our TV news here. [Grin]

One of the reasons we Americans appear so ignorant is that we really don't know much about the world outside of our borders. Some don't even know there is a world outside of the United States unfortunately.
I think her potions sound lovely. Good luck to her in the future.

And please always remember me as the creative intellectual guy. This is who I am and I do know what I'm talking about.
I am amused that someone now seems to be posting in my name. I hardly think of myself as being an intellectual guy. Nor do I always know what I am talking about though I may have a few opinions. The point is everyone does and all of our opinions have to be thought though, with each of us discarding what is not of use to us and keeping what it.

One of the weaknesses of many Americans, including our polticial leaders and military leaders, has been the idea that we Americans often think that we always know best.

This trips us up over and over again. I saw it trip us up in Vietnam because we learned very little from the Vietnamese while they learned a great deal about us very well. We are in danger of making the same mistake in Iraq. We follow our preconceived ideas and ignore any information that does not go along with them.

One cannot learn if one assumes one is always right. Our Ameican forfathers were smarter, they stole good ideas from everyone. They always believed that America could be made better. They did not believe that admitting to problems and mistakes was unpatriotic.

Can I be wrong, of course, but I am a life long student of my country's history. I love it very much but I can not support other than the good things done, not the bad and silly things.

I would love to see my country turn around and grow up in a real sense of the word. I would love to see it inspire te world, not though cheap talk but though being the country we often claim we are, living up to the ideals we only brag about now.

When we live up to those ideals we will no longer have to brag. When we act with reponsibilty, stop whining about others not being door mats and admit mistakes and actually change and try something else, then we will be the country our forefathers dreamed of.

Obviously this is my personal opinion, not holy writ. Do your own thinking always. Trust your own gut feelings.

Geezer and occasional philosopher. Yes there are reasons why people give philosophers drinks of hemlock as a gift.
Looks like we have a troll on line. A shame to have them wasting time here. I will cut off now, so it won't matter. Any more posts will not be mine.
Just one more thing though...

A big thanks to IHAI for letting me share this information. Peace.

Again any more posts will not be mine.
Sorry one last post I promise. How much is this potion?
I can see already by the amazing number of comments about this article that the potion does indeed attract attention. Great Gods of Olde, this idea has sparked a great deal of attention. Think about it. If a creativity potion (geared obviously to get attention) had not been brought up, how many responses do you think this post would have gotten, eh? I applaud ihaveanidea for doing this, whether it was tongue-in-cheek or not. On one hand, BOY did it get attention, which is a major plus in an advertising sense, and on the other hand, hey! What harm can it do to try whatever might work? It's simple business sense! Me, I make potions myself and they do their job quite well. Maybe not in the way I intended, but I'm sure that the crew at Ihaveanidea didn't know their innovation would be posted on the world's biggest Pagan website either! Heeheehee. Lots of luck to you guys, and kudos for supporting another Pagan entrepeneur!

Wicca: 100 thousand?

Where in the world di you get that number from? Did you make it up? Wicca has a very dedicated following and the numbers 10 times the amount you didn't give credit for.

As for some "people find witchcraft not something to be joked about. " Your right on a small basis but everyone and everything has a joke about it. Personaly I fear the followers of Christianity and have been assulted by them a couple of times for not being a sheep.
Posted by GeekGurl
It's nice to see that rational arguament has yet again flown out of the window regarding the acceptance of other people's belief or lack thereof. It's basically 'nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah my god's bigger than your god'. I'm not even sure if the firgures quoted above are meant to be anti or pro christian. I mean Macdonalds gets millions of people through the door but it's hardly haute cuisine. Since when did 'popularity' equal 'best'? Xfactor and Big Brother are hardly the best programming yet millions turn on, tune in and veg out. Christianity though is a great example of marketing, although on a two millennia slow burn. It took existing pagan symbols and turned them into the fish and cross (the pagan female gential symbol of fertility on it's side and the sign of the division of the elements respectively), rebranded existing pagan ceremonies into new, exciting christian ones and encouraged the local populace to christen their children as soon as they were born thereby perpetuating the faith. Talk about viral marketing! It makes Cocacola look like the girlscouts!! The greatest gift my mother gave to me was not having me christened and thus allow me to find my own faith (which I have) and accept others be they hindu, jew, muslim, pagan, hare krishna and, yes, even christian.

I dont see why you all are getting so bent out of shape..

Try and see it for what it is..

It was intended to be fun, and to make you think.. which should get your "creativity" going...

and if by chance you happen to be wiccan/pagan, you can "enjoy" it that much more...

stop arguing about religion.

For the record, I am a pagan, and I thought the post was hilarious! I came here from disinfo.net. There are a ton more great religous jokes on Beliefnet.

Thanks for the laugh.

If anyone wants some extra creativity, I seem to have too much. I just can't keep up with all the great ideas! chuckle Anyone looking to hire an independent creativity consultant?
Posted by Whimspiration
Oh hey now, Angus, and for everyone discussing this: first off, as someone who identifies as pagan, let's just clear up one thing: wicca is not the same as being a witch (although "certified witch" is an absurd term). Wicca was invented within the last century with the help of Alleister Crowley, an alleged magician and con man. Spells and paganism in some form have been done for longer than just about any organized religion.

That notwithstanding, I don't think that this is any more offensive than someone telling you that they're saying a prayer for you in whatever religion they believe--which you have no control over. At least with this you can choose to buy it or leave it. Nobody's forcing anything on you!
Posted by littlest marketer
As a non-Wiccan pagan, I have a few things to say on the matter.

For one, Wicca is not an ancient tradition. It is based on ancient traditions, but was initiated in the last century by, among others, an alleged magician and con man named Alleister Crowley.

Secondly, assuming that a "witch" is automatically Wiccan is a little bit of a stretch. And how do you get to be a "certified witch" anyway? As you see, I have criticisms on all sides here.

Thirdly, creating "spells" or "charms" or whatever you want to call it is as old as man, and goes back further than religion. It is the roots of religion because people are and always have been superstitious and looking for ways to manipulate their environment.

And my final comment is this: how is this offensive to anybody at all? Either you buy the thing or you don't. I personally think it's better than someone telling a non-Christian that they are praying for them. Who asked you? What if I'm superstitious and think that you praying for me is going to send my soul to eternal pain? I'm not saying I feel this way, but just becaue people who do are in the minority doesn't mean that they don't exist.

Much thanks to Jason, Logostein, StephL etc for their ability to have a sense of humour. Really, anyone who can get seriously offended by two crystals and a bottle needs to get their head checked.
