In Vancouver, ihaveanidea isn’t yet established as the student ‘go to’ site. So the first challenge in putting on a successful Vancouver show was getting the word out to all the schools.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of guys like Wil Boucher of Change, we managed to reach the students, which helped us almost double our student attendance.

This made for an amazing night! The CDs came out in force (even more than had signed up!) The student books were better – and the venue was perfect.

The evening began with a few mercifully short speeches that were made even more bearable by ample free drink tickets.

The judging began a bit late (hey, this is Vancouver). But long after the ‘official’ evening was over, the CDs were still reviewing books – their commitment and enthusiasm was a beautiful thing. And the effort didn’t go unnoticed among the students - some students told me they had seen 5 CDs!

Special thanks go to Janet Kestin, who dropped in to help judge; the folks at Soho bar, who kept the CDs sweet; and all the folks from Aquent and Firstlight who just jumped in and helped out with things like shooting video and putting grab bags together.

I get the feeling that ihaveanidea is finally beginning to take hold in Vancouver – which means next year’s show will be even bigger.
